Bridge Over River Kwai and Phra pathom Chedi |
Kanchanaburi
is 129 kilometers west of Bangkok. A mountainous provice,
it is the origin of Kwai Noi River and the Kwai Yai River.
This tour take you to the world's renowned Bridge
on The River Kwai,was construction during World War II by
prisoners of war in 1942.About 10,000 allied soldiers lost
their life from huger, deseases, hard labor that the name
Death Railway was given to it.You will visit the cemetery
and The JEATH War Museum where you can see the many historic
exhibits.
Phra Patham Chedi is the largest chedi in Thailand.Its
height is 120.45 metres.The present chedi was constructed
in 1853 by King Rama IV to cover an old one which was built
a thousand to two thousand years ago. |

museum. Its structure is a realistic reconstruction of a prisoner

connected with the construction of the Death Railway by prisoners
of war (PoW's) in 1942.Next visit the Cemetery War is behind the railway
station.6,982 Allied soldiers are buried here. |

between Thailand and Burma. It was 415 kms long, construction was
began in 1942,by about 30,000 prisoners of war and more than 200,000labourers
from India, China, Indonesia,Malaysia,Singapore,Burma and Thailand.Of
these, more than 100,000 people died of many diseases,due to starvation
and lack of medical equipment. |
